At the SMES library we always celebrate the joy (and woe and suspense and mystery) of reading, but during the week of Oct. 4th–8th we join in a national celebration of our right to the free exchange of thoughts and ideas (some good, some bad, some just plain strange) that is afforded to us through our First Amendment rights. Celebrating the Freedom to Read Week reminds us not to take this precious democratic freedom for granted; it is a right that sets us apart from many societies around the world. …
